Care Package Delivery Program
As a teacher for 13 years in a Title I school, I found myself using a portion of my paycheck to give funds, supply food, purchase clothes and incentives as academic motivation for my students. I also used my single-parent salary to create care packages or send funds to my former students away at college. There have been times when I wished that I could do more, but I did not have the resources. College is often identified as a defining moment of when things "get real"... Car-less, Jobless, Broke... You cannot go home as often as you would like. Your family may not be able to consistently send funds or necessary items. A family may be without a vehicle or working with one car for the whole household. What about parent(s) that work hard but only make enough to keep the necessities rolling at home? Those are just a few scenarios that can make one feel stressed, helpless, and hopeless while on their journey of seeking higher education-causing a rise in dropout rates. In secondary schools 75% of students who attend a high-poverty campus are eligible for free or reduced lunch (American Psychological Association, 2013). For most students that does not change once they go off to school. Independent Magazine (2019), reported that most students from disadvantaged backgrounds dropout due to lack of all-around support.
There is also a great need for our elderly who often go forgotten; They are in need of assistance and compassion as many feel abandoned or are truly without a family to support them. Our pages will be delivered to senior living facilities and doorsteps of those who could use the kind sentiment. KYCEP has partnered with Care Pack Box to provide free, monthly care packages to 100 disadvantage students, housed on-campus at each public, four-year universities throughout the United States. Ultimately, the goal is to build momentum, raising enough funds, awareness and financial support to services at least 100 students at all 776 public schools throughout the country, along with various initiatives that directly benefit each student, and elderly population.
Help Kudos Youth & Community Enrichment Program #sparkkindness through assisting families and communities across the country.
